AS Monaco have secured teenage playmaker Mathys Detourbet on a season-long loan from Manchester City. The 19-year-old joins the Ligue 1 side immediately after signing for the Premier League champions from ESTAC Troyes, a fellow member of the City Football Group.
The French midfielder arrives in the Principality following a standout campaign in the second tier. Detourbet recorded four goals and seven assists across 27 appearances in all competitions for Troyes last season. His creative contributions proved instrumental in securing the club’s promotion back to Ligue 1, establishing him as a pivotal figure in the dressing room despite his youth.
Manchester City confirmed the acquisition of Detourbet from Troyes only last week. The transfer represented an internal movement within the City Football Group, which operates both organisations. Rather than integrating into Pep Guardiola’s first-team squad immediately, the young prospect has been loaned directly to Monaco to continue his development in France’s top flight.
The temporary arrangement includes significant future possibilities for the Principality club. Monaco may prolong the loan duration by an additional year. Should they exercise that extension, they would also hold the right to complete a permanent transfer at a later date.
The teenager progressed through the Troyes academy before establishing himself as a first-team regular. His technical ability and attacking output attracted attention from across the City Group network, ultimately leading to his acquisition by the English champions despite his limited senior experience.
This immediate loan suggests Manchester City view the youngster as a long-term prospect requiring regular minutes at a competitive level. Monaco, meanwhile, add another promising talent to their ranks as they prepare for domestic and European competition. The coming months will determine whether the temporary stay evolves into a lasting arrangement, with the Ligue 1 side holding the contractual power to shape the player’s future.
