Rangers and FC Basel are vying for the signature of ESTAC Troyes defender Sankhoun Diawara, according to reports from Foot Mercato.
The Scottish and Swiss clubs have both identified the 20-year-old centre-back as a priority target ahead of the new season. The French outlet suggests that while Rangers are maintaining close surveillance of the situation, Basel have already made significant progress in their pursuit of the France youth international.
Diawara has developed through the Troyes academy since joining at age 14 and has emerged as a promising defensive prospect. Last season, he made 17 senior appearances across all competitions, registering one goal in the Coupe de France and providing one assist in the league. His contributions helped Troyes secure promotion back to Ligue 1 for the 2025/26 campaign.
However, the defender’s future at the club appears uncertain despite their return to the top flight. Although Diawara’s current contract runs until 2027, Foot Mercato reports that he has no intention of signing an extension. This position indicates that the player is likely to seek a move away from the French club this summer rather than participate in their Ligue 1 season.
Troyes officials reportedly hope to retain the young centre-back as they prepare for life in the top division. Yet with the player unwilling to commit beyond his existing terms, the club may face a difficult decision. Selling now would allow Troyes to command a transfer fee with two years remaining on his deal, whereas keeping an unhappy player could diminish his value and disrupt squad harmony.
