Roma have proposed Argentine winger Matías Soulé to AC Milan with a €30 million asking price as the Giallorossi scramble to sell a player who no longer figures in manager Gian Piero Gasperini’s plans.
The 23-year-old is expected to depart the Stadio Olimpico alongside midfielder Manu Koné, with the club hoping sales will generate funds to reinvest in the squad before the window closes. Roma paid €28.6 million plus bonuses to sign Soulé from Juventus in the summer of 2024, but the investment has not worked out as hoped.
During his sole season in the capital, Soulé recorded 12 goals and 13 assists in 81 competitive appearances. Despite these contributions, efforts to find him a new club abroad have stalled. Previous interest from Besiktas, Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen, Aston Villa, Sunderland, VfB Stuttgart, Al Hilal and Al Ahli has reportedly faded without concrete offers materialising.
Rossoneri interest remains tentative
According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, Milan have been offered the chance to sign Soulé, which would allow the player to remain in Serie A. The versatile attacker can operate either on the flank or in a central role as a trequartista, potentially filling the vacancy Milan had initially targeted Genk’s Konstantinos Karetsas to occupy.
However, sources stress that these are not yet firm negotiations. Any move for Soulé is understood to be conditional on Milan first selling forward Rafael Leão. The structure of the deal could yet take the form of a season-long loan with an obligation to purchase, rather than an immediate permanent transfer.
What happens next?
With the transfer deadline approaching, Roma face mounting pressure to offload Soulé. Given the lack of competing bids, the club are unlikely to recoup their full €28.6 million outlay, but a loan-to-buy arrangement with Milan may offer a practical solution. For now, the Argentine remains in limbo, training away from Gasperini’s core group until his future is resolved.
