Maurizio Sarri has been officially unveiled as Atalanta‘s new head coach, declaring that he required no persuasion to join the Bergamo club. The former Napoli, Juventus and Lazio manager accepted the position immediately upon approach, citing the quality of the infrastructure and staff as decisive factors in his decision.
Speaking at his presentation, Sarri offered a glowing assessment of his new surroundings. He described the training facilities and personnel as impressive, explaining that these elements convinced him to commit without delay. The appointment concludes Atalanta’s search for a successor to Gian Piero Gasperini, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the Serie A side.
Tactical Transition
Sarri has already begun implementing his preferred 4-3-3 formation, a shift from the club’s previous tactical approach. The coach confirmed that Samardzic is being trialled in a new position during pre-season preparations. While the 4-3-3 remains his primary system, Sarri indicated that a 4-2-3-1 formation could provide an alternative structure depending on squad availability and opposition.
Attacking Options
The new coach highlighted several attacking resources at his disposal. He identified Krstovic and Scamacca as important centre-forwards, while also revealing long-standing admiration for Raspadori, a player he previously attempted to recruit during his Lazio tenure. Sarri particularly welcomed the acquisition of Gianluca Gaetano, characterising the midfield signing as a valuable addition provided by the club’s sporting director.
Season Outlook
Despite the swift managerial transition, Sarri has established clear expectations for the campaign ahead. He anticipates an important season but acknowledged that achieving results depends on intensive work during the preparation period. The manager suggested that further transfer market activity remains possible, noting that his director understands the specific technical profiles required to execute his footballing philosophy.
Atalanta’s pre-season programme offers Sarri a window to instil his methods before competitive action resumes. The squad’s adaptation to his tactical demands will prove crucial as the club prepares for the new Serie A campaign.
