Seb Stafford-Bloor, a journalist with The Athletic, addressed the rumours on X, stating: “Lots of falsely attributed stories about Nick Woltemade’s future are going around.” He clarified that the 22-year-old is “joining Newcastle’s pre-season today and preparing for the season ahead.”
False reports traced to impersonator
The loan speculation appears to have originated from an X account impersonating David Ornstein, a well-known reporter at The Athletic. The fabricated claims suggested Woltemade had been granted permission to seek a temporary move away from Tyneside, despite having only arrived last summer.
Stafford-Bloor’s intervention highlights the growing challenge of misinformation in the transfer market, where fake social media accounts can rapidly spread unsubstantiated claims attributed to credible journalists. Such incidents serve as a reminder for supporters to verify sources before accepting transfer developments as genuine.
Substantial investment protected by long-term deal
Woltemade joined Newcastle from VfB Stuttgart in a €75 million deal last summer, representing a significant statement of intent from the Magpies. He subsequently signed a contract running until 2031, making any suggestion of a hasty exit particularly implausible.
