AS Roma have moved to secure the long-term futures of two senior players by announcing contract extensions for defender Gianluca Mancini and midfielder Bryan Cristante. The Giallorossi confirmed that Mancini has committed until 2029, while Cristante has signed on until 2028, ensuring both remain central to the club’s plans as they balance domestic and European commitments.

The announcement brings closure to a summer of uncertainty regarding Mancini’s position. The Italy international’s previous contract had been due to expire next year, prompting strong interest from Inter Milan. The Nerazzurri had identified the 27-year-old centre-back as a priority target as they sought defensive reinforcements following the exits of Francesco Acerbi and Stefan de Vrij. By securing Mancini on a four-year extension, Roma have retained a player who has made 319 appearances and scored 23 goals since joining from Atalanta in 2019, drawing a definitive line under Inter’s pursuit.

Cristante’s renewal similarly rewards loyalty and consistent performance. The midfielder arrived in the capital in 2018 and has since accumulated 364 appearances, a figure that places him among the top ten appearance-makers in the club’s history. His ability to operate in multiple midfield roles, combined with his influence within the dressing room, has established him as a valued figure under a succession of coaches.

The twin announcements reflect a deliberate strategy by Gian Piero Gasperini to build his squad around an experienced, established core ahead of Roma’s return to the Champions League. The club has been proactive in contract negotiations recently, having also secured Paulo Dybala’s future, though they were unable to prevent right-back Zeki Celik from departing for Juventus on a free transfer after allowing his previous deal to lapse.

By tying down Mancini and Cristante, Roma have protected their defensive and midfield spine against external interest. The moves provide crucial stability as the club aims to progress in Serie A while managing the additional demands of European competition, ensuring two of their most reliable performers remain at the Stadio Olimpico for the foreseeable future.
