Samsunspor are weighing up a loan approach for OGC Nice forward Kevin Carlos as the Turkish side look to strengthen their attacking options before the window closes.
The 25-year-old striker, who joined the French club from FC Basel for €6 million last summer, has found opportunities limited during his debut campaign on the Côte d’Azur. Carlos has managed just two goals and one assist across 35 appearances in all competitions since arriving in Ligue 1, struggling to translate his Swiss Super League form to a higher level.
According to reports, the proposed arrangement would involve an initial loan spell with a view to a permanent transfer. However, any deal faces a significant hurdle in persuading the player himself to leave. Born in Ceuta, the forward is understood to be determined to prove his capabilities in one of Europe’s top five leagues, making a move to Turkey potentially unappealing despite the prospect of regular starts.
Carlos began his career in the academy at SD Huesca before spells with Real Betis and Swiss side Yverdon Sport. His most productive period came at Basel, where he scored 15 times in 40 matches prior to his move to France. That goal-scoring record convinced Nice to secure his services on a long-term contract running until 2030, though he has since found himself on the margins of the first team.
Despite his struggles this season, the Ligue 1 outfit are not closing the door on a temporary departure. The club appears willing to consider sanctioning a move that would allow the striker to gain regular first-team football elsewhere, particularly given the length of his remaining contract.
For Samsunspor, securing a player with top-tier European experience would represent a significant coup, even if only on a temporary basis. The Turkish club are banking on the appeal of guaranteed playing time to tempt the forward, though Carlos’s ambitions may ultimately prove incompatible with their project.
With four years remaining on his current deal, Nice hold a strong negotiating position regarding any potential exit. The coming days will likely determine whether the striker opts to seek minutes abroad or continues fighting for his place in southern France.
