Becker’s previous deal was due to expire in the summer of 2025. The new agreement prevents the newly promoted Bundesliga side from losing the Moldova international on a free transfer next year. Lazio had viewed the contractual situation as a potential opportunity to secure the player at a reduced fee, but Schalke have moved decisively to retain their academy graduate.
Becker to challenge Gosens
The defender will begin the season competing with Robin Gosens for the starting left-back position. Gosens, the experienced Germany international, is currently sidelined with an injury, potentially opening the door for Becker to claim early minutes in the campaign.
Becker recently reaffirmed his commitment to the Gelsenkirchen club despite external interest. “I feel comfortable at Schalke. I never said I wanted to leave,” he stated. “I still have a contract. I’m fully focused on Schalke and the current pre-season training.”
