Schalke 04 have offered Edin Dzeko a contract for the 2026/27 season as the 40-year-old considers extending his stay in the Bundesliga. The forward joined the Royal Blues in January on a six-month deal and played a central role in their promotion, scoring six times in eleven matches to help secure an immediate return to the top flight.

The Gelsenkirchen club have proposed a package that includes a base salary of €900,000 per year. Performance bonuses could increase his total earnings to €1.3 million annually, a figure that would place him among the squad’s highest-paid players.

Impact since January arrival

Dzeko signed as a free agent at the midpoint of the campaign, quickly establishing himself as a key figure in the attack. His goal-scoring rate of better than one every two games proved decisive during the promotion push, providing experience and clinical finishing during the critical final phase of the season.

The veteran has demonstrated that he can still influence matches at a high level, though he must now assess whether he wishes to undertake the physical demands of another full Bundesliga campaign.

Decision pending

Club officials are not pressuring Dzeko into an immediate response and have indicated they will grant him additional time to make his choice. The striker is evaluating whether Schalke represents the appropriate setting for what could be the final phase of his professional career.

Should he accept, Dzeko would offer proven top-flight quality and leadership to a squad preparing for the challenges of the 2026/27 season. Schalke await his decision with no artificial deadline imposed.
