Borussia Dortmund have confirmed that new signing Kauã Prates will wear the number 36 shirt, with the 17-year-old Brazilian left-back set to display “K. Prates” on his jersey. The kit is already available through the club’s online fanshop ahead of his official arrival at Signal Iduna Park.
The defender is currently undergoing rehabilitation training as he recovers from a thigh injury. His contract with the Bundesliga club will formally commence when he turns 18 next month, delaying his official integration into the senior squad until he completes both his recovery and the administrative formalities.
From Cruzeiro to the Bundesliga
Prates arrives from Cruzeiro, where he also wore the number 36 during his time with the first team. He made 18 senior appearances for the Brazilian side after making his debut at the age of 16 years and eight months.
During his spell in Belo Horizonte, the teenager gained valuable experience in Brazil’s Serie A and the Copa Sudamericana, playing his first matches in both competitions while still 16 years old. His early exposure to senior football in South America suggests he is prepared for the step up to European competition.
International recognition
The full-back is a current Brazil U20 international and played a key role in his country’s triumph at the U17 South American Championship in 2025. That tournament success underlined his potential as one of Brazil’s emerging defensive talents and contributed to Dortmund’s decision to secure his signature.
Squad number continuity
The number 36 was most recently worn at Dortmund by Ansgar Knauff and Tom Rothe. By retaining the same number he wore in Brazil, Prates maintains a familiar link to his breakthrough period while beginning his European career.
