Crystal Palace have identified Stade Brestois 29 centre-back Raphaël Le Guen as a potential successor to Maxence Lacroix, who is expected to sign for Chelsea in the coming hours.

The anticipated departure of Lacroix to Stamford Bridge has forced the Eagles to search for reinforcements. Palace view the 19-year-old Le Guen as a long-term solution to fill the void left by the French international’s exit.
Brest breakthrough and long-term contract
Le Guen only made his professional debut last August, coming off the bench in a 3-1 defeat away to RC Lens. The teenager gradually earned the trust of his coaches during the latter stages of the campaign.
Following substitute appearances against AJ Auxerre in March, the defender secured his first start against Paris FC on matchday 32. He finished the season as a regular starter, featuring in demanding fixtures against Paris Saint-Germain and RC Strasbourg-Alsace.
Despite his limited first-team experience, Le Guen is under contract with Les Pirates until 2029. This lengthy agreement strengthens Brest’s negotiating position should Palace formalise their interest.

A move to South London would see Le Guen link up with fellow Frenchman Pierre Sage, who manages Crystal Palace. The defender’s transition to English football could be eased by working under a compatriot with knowledge of the French market.
