Eintracht Frankfurt have officially announced the signing of Brazilian defender Otávio from Portuguese side CF Estrela Amadora. The 20-year-old has committed to a long-term contract with the Bundesliga club until June 2031 and will wear the number five shirt during the 2026-27 campaign.

The transfer was confirmed on Tuesday morning, marking a significant step in the young centre-back’s career. Otávio is expected to undergo medical examinations in Frankfurt before travelling to join his new teammates at the club’s pre-season training camp in Grassau.

Breakthrough in Portugal

Otávio arrives in Germany following an impressive breakthrough season in the Portuguese top flight. The left-footed defender made 22 appearances for Estrela Amadora during the previous campaign, establishing himself as a key figure in the team’s backline as they successfully battled to maintain their Primeira Liga status.

His commanding performances at such a young age have drawn attention from across Europe, with Eintracht Frankfurt securing his services on a five-year contract. The move represents an opportunity for the Brazilian to test himself in one of Europe’s major leagues while continuing his development.

Physical profile appeals to Frankfurt

Sporting director Timmo Hardung highlighted the specific attributes that attracted the club to the young defender, pointing to a combination of physical tools and mental approach that fits their recruitment strategy.

“With Otávio, we are bringing in a young, highly talented central defender with a lot of potential for development,” Hardung explained. “He is left-footed, tall, athletic, fast, and combines these qualities with a strong defensive mentality, which we want to specifically strengthen in our squad. We are convinced that he will bring us a lot of joy at Eintracht.”

Pre-season integration

The timing of the announcement allows Otávio to integrate with the squad during the crucial pre-season period. After completing his medical assessments, he will immediately join the group in Grassau, giving him valuable time to adapt to new tactical demands and build relationships with his defensive partners before the competitive fixtures begin.

The acquisition adds valuable depth to Frankfurt’s central defensive options as they prepare for the demands of the upcoming Bundesliga campaign.
