SC Paderborn have added fresh attacking impetus by completing the loan signing of Rayan Philippe from Hamburger SV. The agreement runs until the conclusion of the 2026/27 campaign.
Club officials moved to secure the deal as they look to sharpen their options in the final third during the decisive phase of the season. Sebastian Lange, Paderborn’s managing director for sport, hailed the arrival as a significant boost and highlighted the attributes the forward will bring.
“We are delighted that Rayan is joining our club,” Lange said. “He has proven his qualities both in the second tier and, most recently, in the Bundesliga. Rayan will help us with his tremendous pace, technical ability, dribbling and finishing.”
Modest return in Hamburg
Philippe joined HSV from Eintracht Braunschweig in 2025. The transfer cost a reported €3 million, underlining the confidence Hamburg had in his ability when they secured his signature. Since then, Philippe has found the net five times in 33 appearances for the club.
What happens next
The loan captures Philippe at a stage where he has already featured in both the 2. Bundesliga and the Bundesliga. Paderborn will hope his pace and technical skill translate into goals and assists as they press on with their fixture schedule. The arrangement is strictly temporary, covering only the remainder of the current campaign.
For Philippe, the immediate priority will be to earn a regular role and prove he can deliver the end product that Lange expects. Paderborn, meanwhile, gain a versatile offensive option without committing to a permanent outlay.
