Fedele Confalonieri, who stood beside Silvio Berlusconi during AC Milan’s golden age, has launched a fierce attack on the club’s current structure. The Mediaset President directed harsh words at owner Gerry Cardinale and Portuguese winger Rafael Leao.
Speaking at a book launch about the Italian giants, Confalonieri did not hide his disappointment. He contrasted today’s team with the dominant side of the Berlusconi years. That period saw Milan become the world’s most successful club over three decades.
The media executive reserved special criticism for Leao. He called the forward a “fake champion”. However, he praised Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric. Confalonieri highlighted Modric’s dedication. The Croatian still plays full matches at 40 years old. He also noted Modric’s Ballon d’Or victory during the era of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Confalonieri attacked the club’s ownership model. He questioned the commitment of Cardinale’s RedBird Capital Partners. The businessman suggested that investment banks lack passion for winning the Scudetto. He pointed to city rivals Inter Milan as a positive example. He praised Inter President Beppe Marotta for his leadership.
The former Berlusconi aide expressed regret that Adriano Galliani no longer runs the club. He believes Galliani could have prevented the current decline.
When journalists mentioned current CEO Giorgio Furlani, Confalonieri showed clear disdain. He stated he had no desire to meet the executive responsible for Milan’s decisions.
