Neil Lennon urges Celtic to consider Falkirk boss John McGlynn for manager role

Key Takeaways

  • Neil Lennon says John McGlynn deserves to be on Celtic’s shortlist for next manager.
  • McGlynn, 64, has taken Falkirk from League One to Scottish Premiership top six in two seasons.
  • The pair meet on Saturday when Falkirk face Dunfermline in the Scottish Cup semi-final at Hampden.

Former Celtic boss Neil Lennon believes Falkirk manager John McGlynn should be discussed as a possible successor at Parkhead.

Speaking ahead of the Scottish Cup semi-final, Lennon praised the 64-year-old for lifting Falkirk from the third tier to the top half of the Premiership in just two campaigns.

“He’s one of the best coaches in Scotland,” Lennon told reporters. “With his experience and the way his teams play, he ought to be in the frame for the Celtic job.”

McGlynn previously worked inside Celtic’s football department between 2015 and 2018, scouting opponents and analysing matches.

Celtic have used three different managers this season and will begin a fresh recruitment process once the current interim spell of Martin O’Neill ends.

Lennon, now in charge of Dunfermline, stressed he did not wish to distract McGlynn before their cup clash, but added: “I rate him that highly. He’s thorough, he learns every day, and his record speaks for itself.”

Dunfermline have already knocked out Hibernian and Aberdeen en route to the last four, while Celtic meet St Mirren in the other semi-final.
