Former Juventus wide man Emanuele Giaccherini has publicly challenged Luciano Spalletti’s recent comments regarding the Bianconeri’s struggles. The ex-winger believes the current situation at the Turin club stems from a lack of strong leadership rather than just tactical issues.

Juventus suffered a damaging 2-0 defeat against Fiorentina this past Sunday. This result leaves them two points outside the Champions League positions with only one league match left to play this season.

Speaking to La Stampa via TMW, Giaccherini expressed his disappointment with Spalletti’s analysis. The former Italy international argued that whilst Spalletti successfully implemented a clear playing philosophy, the team has shown insufficient character during difficult moments.

“You require personality to win matches even when your performance levels drop,” Giaccherini explained. He described Spalletti’s recent words as “discordant” and insisted that Juventus must always maintain high ambitions.

The 38-year-old highlighted the importance of figures like former captain Giorgio Chiellini. He noted that experienced leaders know exactly what to tell teammates during challenging periods.

Giaccherini, who previously played under Antonio Conte at both Juventus and for the Italian national team, has backed the current Napoli manager to return to the Azzurri hot seat. Conte managed Italy between 2014 and 2016 before leaving for club football.

“We must change our football mentality and show greater faith in our young Italian players,” Giaccherini stated. He suggested investing patience in domestic talent rather than pursuing foreign signings that only benefit agents and directors.

Italian media reports indicate that Conte will leave Napoli at the end of this campaign following two seasons in charge. The experienced tactician has previously indicated he would welcome a second spell with the national team. The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) will appoint a new coach following their presidential election scheduled for 22 June 2026.
