AC Milan appear ready to name Oliver Glasner as their new manager. The Serie A giants have turned their attention away from Matthias Jaissle. Glasner recently left his post at Crystal Palace after winning the Conference League.
The Rossoneri have completely changed their leadership structure. They fired manager Max Allegri, sporting director Igli Tare, chief executive Giorgio Furlani and technical director Geoffrey Moncada. The club announced all four sackings in a single statement.
The search for a new boss has come down to two main candidates. These are current Al-Ahli manager Matthias Jaissle and the 51-year-old Austrian coach Glasner. However, sources suggest Milan now strongly favour the former Eintracht Frankfurt boss.
Glasner brings impressive recent experience to the role. He lifted the Conference League trophy with Crystal Palace last season. He has also managed top German clubs including Wolfsburg and enjoyed success with Austrian side LASK.
Ralf Rangnick is the key figure driving Glasner’s candidacy. The German is expected to become Milan’s new technical director. He has personally recommended his compatriot for the managerial vacancy.
However, Rangnick’s own appointment is not yet guaranteed. He currently manages the Austria national team and has not decided whether to leave that post. There are also reports that club legend Zlatan Ibrahimovic is unhappy. He is said to be worried about Rangnick holding too much power at the San Siro.
