Como have entered talks to sign Bologna defender Jhon Lucumi, joining a crowded race for the Colombia international as the Serie A transfer window progresses.
Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano reports that the newly promoted Lombardy club are holding direct negotiations for the centre-back. They join Juventus, Inter, Galatasaray, Besiktas and Bournemouth in monitoring the 28-year-old, who is expected to leave Bologna this summer.
The move became possible after Bologna directors promised Lucumi he could depart if a suitable offer arrived. That pledge followed the collapse of a transfer to Sunderland last year, which left the defender frustrated. With his contract now running down at the end of the season, the club are motivated to sell rather than risk losing him for nothing.
Price drop changes market
Juventus have long led the chase but are reportedly unable to meet Bologna’s €25m asking price. The valuation became more accessible after Lucumi’s €28m release clause expired, removing the previous premium and allowing Bologna to set a lower fee.
This development has encouraged Como, who recently abandoned a move for Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah after baulking at the Blues’ €30m demand plus add-ons. The Lombardy side view Lucumi as a considerably cheaper alternative who already possesses valuable Serie A and Champions League experience.
Como’s ambitious plans
The Colombia international also commands a lower salary than many targets on the market, fitting Coma’s budget as they prepare for their first top-flight campaign. While no agreement is yet in place between the clubs, the direct talks signal serious intent from the promoted side.
Juventus and Inter maintain interest, but their financial constraints and hesitation over the fee could allow Como to secure a statement signing. Bologna are expected to prioritise resolving Lucumi’s situation as the window progresses, given his contract status and the number of clubs now circling.
