Dimitrios Giannoulis is poised to return to PAOK following two seasons with FC Augsburg in the Bundesliga. The Greece international will move back to his former club for a fee of €3.5 million plus bonus payments after the sides reached total agreement.
The 30-year-old left-back arrived at the Bavarian club as a free agent in 2024 following the expiration of his contract at Norwich City. During his spell in Germany, he established himself as a regular starter, making 58 Bundesliga appearances and contributing three goals and nine assists.
English interest rejected
Earlier in the transfer window, the defender attracted interest from English Championship and Premier League sides. Ipswich Town and Hull City were both linked with moves for the experienced full-back, but Giannoulis has opted to return to Greece instead.
The transfer represents a swift departure from Augsburg just one year after he joined without a fee. The German club will now recoup value through the structured deal with PAOK, with official confirmation of the move expected shortly.
Previous spell in England
Giannoulis originally departed PAOK for Norwich City initially on loan, with the switch becoming permanent for €7.5 million in 2021. He spent three years at Carrow Road before leaving for Germany last summer.
On the international stage, the Thessaloniki-born defender has earned 34 caps for Greece since making his debut under former coach Michael Skibbe in 2018. His return to PAOK reunites him with the club where he developed before his moves to England and Germany.
