FC Nantes have reached an agreement with Turkish club Amedspor for the transfer of goalkeeper Alban Lafont. The deal, estimated at around €1 million, will see the Ivory Coast international join the Süper Lig newcomers despite holding a contract with the French side until 2027.
The 27-year-old arrives in Turkey following a productive loan spell in Greece. Last season, Lafont featured 37 times for Panathinaikos, keeping 13 clean sheets during his temporary stay in Athens. His consistent displays between the posts convinced Amedspor to secure his services as they prepare for their first campaign in Turkey’s top flight following promotion.
Established figure at Nantes
Lafont originally joined Nantes in 2019 from Italian club ACF Fiorentina, initially on loan before the move became permanent. The Burkina Faso-born shot-stopper, who came through the ranks at Toulouse FC, developed into a reliable presence during his time in Brittany.
Over nearly seven years, Lafont made close to 200 appearances for Les Canaris. He played a pivotal role in their 2022 Coupe de France triumph and wore the captain’s armband during Europa League fixtures. Despite this success and his long-term contract, the goalkeeper has been permitted to depart as Nantes reshape their squad ahead of the new season.
International recognition
Lafont switched his international allegiance to Ivory Coast in October 2025. His performances in Greece have strengthened his standing within the national team setup, earning him selection in Emerse Faé’s World Cup squad for the tournament in the United States.
The goalkeeper is expected to act as understudy to Yahia Fofana during the competition. Securing a regular starting role at Amedspor could prove crucial for his ambitions of claiming the number one jersey for the Elephants in future international windows.
The transfer marks a significant acquisition for the newly promoted Turkish side. Lafont brings substantial experience from Ligue 1 and European competition, qualities Amedspor will rely upon as they aim to establish themselves in the Süper Lig.
