Inter Milan have reached an agreement with Tottenham Hotspur to sign England international Djed Spence. The deal is reportedly worth €31.5 million plus performance-related bonuses, with the 26-year-old set to sign a contract until June 2031.
The Nerazzurri had already secured personal terms with the versatile full-back earlier in the negotiations. Spence is now expected to travel to Milan to undergo his medical examination, though the two clubs are still working to finalise the exact structure of the bonus payments before the transfer is completed.
Fee negotiations and final details
Italian sources concur that a breakthrough has been achieved after Tottenham initially rejected a €30 million proposal. Spurs had reportedly demanded €35 million including performance-related bonuses, but subsequent negotiations appear to have settled on a compromise figure.
While the final agreement is widely reported as €31.5 million plus add-ons, there are minor discrepancies between sources. Sky Sport Italia and Fabrizio Romano maintain the figure is €31.5 million plus bonuses, whereas Sport Mediaset cite €30 million with €2 million in add-ons, and La Gazzetta dello Sport suggest €31 million plus €4 million in additional payments.
Tactical fit and Serie A experience
Inter have identified Spence as the heir to Denzel Dumfries, who transferred to Real Madrid this summer. The England international offers versatility across both flanks, providing competition and cover for Federico Dimarco on the left whilst primarily contesting the right-wing-back role.
This represents a return to Serie A for Spence, who gained experience in Italy during a six-month loan spell at Genoa in 2024, where he made 16 appearances. He will also reunite with compatriot John Stones, who arrived at San Siro as a free agent from Manchester City earlier in the window.
Spence, who celebrated his 26th birthday at the weekend, enhanced his reputation with strong displays for England at the 2026 World Cup. His ability to function effectively on either side of the defence provides manager Simone Inzaghi with valuable tactical flexibility ahead of the new season.
