Olympique Lyonnais have submitted a €3.5 million bid to Stoke City for attacking midfielder Jun-ho Bae, according to Foot Mercato.
The 22-year-old South Korea international has reportedly agreed personal terms with the Ligue 1 club. However, Stoke are said to be seeking an offer of just under €6 million to sanction the departure of a player contracted until 2027.
Background and current status
Bae joined Stoke from Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors in 2023 and established himself as a regular starter last season, beginning 33 of his 45 appearances across all competitions. He contributed three goals and three assists during the campaign.
While the bid has been formally lodged, sources indicate that Lyon will need to increase their offer to meet the Championship club’s valuation. The Potters hold a strong negotiating position given that Bae’s current deal still has three years remaining.
Champions League timeline
Lyon are working to complete the signing before their Champions League third qualifying round tie against Sparta Prague. The French side hope to have the midfielder registered and available for selection ahead of the European fixture.
The pursuit of Bae forms part of an active summer recruitment drive at the Groupama Stadium, where he would become the fifth new arrival if terms can be agreed between the clubs.
Next steps
Negotiations are expected to continue as Lyon attempt to bridge the gap between their initial proposal and Stoke’s asking price. With the player reportedly keen on the move, the resolution likely depends on whether the French club are prepared to meet the financial demands required to release him from his contract.
