VfB Stuttgart sporting director Fabian Wohlgemuth has publicly confirmed the Bundesliga club’s interest in signing VfL Wolfsburg striker Dzenan Pejcinovic, though he has urged caution as the two clubs remain apart in their valuation of the 21-year-old.
Speaking to German outlet Zeitungsverlag Waiblingen, Wohlgemuth acknowledged the pursuit of the forward but stressed the need for professionalism given the player’s current contractual situation. “We have to remain professional,” he said, noting that Pejcinovic remains tied to Wolfsburg. He added that the striker is currently preparing for the season with his club and declined to elaborate further on the matter.
The confirmation follows reports that Wolfsburg recently rejected an opening offer of €18 million, including bonuses, from their Bundesliga rivals. Wolfsburg are reportedly seeking a fee closer to €25 million for the young striker, leaving a significant gap between the negotiating positions.
Pejcinovic is currently participating in pre-season training with Wolfsburg, meaning any potential transfer would require the German club to sanction his departure and potentially source a replacement should they soften their stance on the asking price.
Despite the current impasse, Wohlgemuth indicated that Stuttgart remain active in the transfer market as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of the new campaign. He suggested that further additions could be made, possibly focusing on attacking reinforcements.
The situation leaves Stuttgart with a decision to make as the transfer window progresses. They must either increase their offer to meet Wolfsburg’s demands or explore alternative targets, while the player continues his preparations with his current club.
