Torino have made a firm move to sign Paraguay goalkeeper Orlando Gill following his standout performances at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Sky Sport Italia reports that the Serie A club have submitted an official offer to San Lorenzo as they seek to secure the 26-year-old shot-stopper this summer.

Gill emerged as one of the tournament’s surprise stars, particularly during Paraguay’s Round of 32 clash with Germany where he proved the hero in a penalty shootout victory. That display capped an impressive group stage in which he kept clean sheets against Türkiye and Australia, helping his nation progress despite conceding four goals in the opening defeat to the USA.

Transfer fee and rival interest

The World Cup exposure has significantly increased Gill’s market value. Sources indicate Torino would need to pay between €5 million and €6 million to prise him away from San Lorenzo, where the keeper is contracted until December 2027. The Argentine club acquired him from their Paraguayan sister club only last year, meaning they stand to make a substantial profit on a player signed mere months ago.

Torino are not alone in their admiration. Turkish giants Besiktas and La Liga outfit Valencia have also registered interest in the goalkeeper, though neither has yet made a formal approach matching the Italian side’s bid. The increased attention has complicated negotiations for the Granata, who must now convince both the player and his current employers.

Rapid international ascent

What makes Gill’s World Cup impact particularly remarkable is his limited international experience. He earned his first senior cap for Paraguay in September 2025 and has accumulated just ten appearances for his country. His rapid elevation to World Cup hero status underscores his natural ability and composure, especially given that he only recently celebrated his 26th birthday.

For Torino, the goalkeeper represents both an immediate reinforcement and a shrewd long-term investment. The Granata hope his penalty-saving prowess and commanding presence will translate effectively to Serie A football should they conclude negotiations successfully.

San Lorenzo now face a decision on whether to retain their prized asset for the remaining two and a half years of his contract or accept Torino’s offer while the goalkeeper’s value remains at its peak following his summer heroics.
