Eighteen-year-old goalkeeper Max-Edgar Chabot has rejected a professional contract offer from SCO Angers and is closing in on a transfer to Manchester City. According to Le Parisien, an agreement between the Premier League club and the France youth international could be finalised in the coming days, though no contract has yet been signed.

Angers Face Further Goalkeeping Disruption

The potential departure compounds an unsettled summer for Angers between the posts. The Ligue 1 side had hoped to make Hervé Koffi’s loan from RC Lens permanent after an impressive spell last season, but were priced out of a deal for the Burkina Faso international. They subsequently turned to experienced Portuguese goalkeeper Anthony Lopes, signing the former FC Nantes captain on a free transfer following the expiry of his contract in the west of France.

Now Chabot, who featured for Angers’ U19 side, looks set to follow Koffi through the exit door, denying the club the chance to blood another homegrown talent in their senior setup.

France Youth International Eyed by Premier League Champions

Chabot featured in the France U17 squad for the U17 World Cup held last autumn, representing his country on the global stage before his 18th birthday. His performances at youth level have attracted attention from Manchester City’s recruitment network, who have moved swiftly to capitalise on his contract standoff with Angers.

The move would see Chabot swap the French second tier for one of Europe’s most demanding goalkeeping environments, competing for opportunities within a squad that has consistently challenged for domestic and continental honours. For Angers, the loss represents another blow to their academy production line, having developed the teenager only to see him depart before making a senior competitive appearance for the first team.
