Ipswich Town are set to sign Ivory Coast Under-23 international Abdoul Ouattara from RC Strasbourg Alsace, according to L’Équipe. The Premier League newcomers have reportedly agreed a €20 million fee for the 20-year-old defender.
Reunion with O’Neil
The transfer would see Ouattara commit to a five-year contract at Portman Road, where he will reunite with manager Gary O’Neil. The pair previously worked together at Strasbourg before O’Neil took charge of the recently promoted Premier League side this summer.
The 20-year-old progressed through the French club’s youth system and established himself as a regular starter during the 2025-26 campaign. He made 43 appearances across all competitions last season, contributing four goals and one assist while operating primarily in defensive positions.
Strasbourg Exodus
The Ivorian’s departure continues a significant exodus from the Alsace region. Strasbourg have already lost several first-team players including Valentin Barco, Emmanuel Emegha, Rabby Nzingoula, Junior Mwanga, Stefan Bajic, Saïdou Sow, Óscar Perea and goalkeeper Karl-Johan Johnsson. Ouattara is set to follow these teammates out of the club as the French side undergoes major squad restructuring.
Portman Road Reinforcements
Ipswich are strengthening their squad ahead of their return to the top flight. Brighton forward Julio Enciso is also expected to join the Tractor Boys, giving O’Neil additional attacking options alongside his new defensive signing.
The €20 million deal represents a significant investment for the Suffolk club. Ouattara’s versatility and experience at senior level, despite his age, made him an attractive target as Ipswich look to build a competitive squad capable of consolidating their Premier League status.
