West Ham manager Nuno Espirito Santo faces a crucial meeting with the club’s leadership this Monday. The talks will focus on whether he will stay in charge after the team dropped down to the Championship.

The 50-year-old coach refused to answer questions about his future after the final match of the season. His side beat Leeds United 3-0 on the last day, but this was not enough to save them from relegation.

Nuno joined the East London club in September on a three-year contract. He has previously managed Wolverhampton Wanderers, Tottenham Hotspur and Nottingham Forest.

The team started the season very poorly. They went ten games without a victory between November and January. Although results improved in the final weeks, the damage was already done.

Club chairman David Sullivan and vice-chairman Daniel Kretinsky will lead the discussions with Nuno. Sources say relegation will cost the club approximately £200 million in lost money. This comes after the club already posted losses of £104 million in their last financial year.

Because of these money problems, West Ham must sell players this summer. Manchester United are interested in midfielder Mateus Fernandes. Several Premier League clubs also want captain Jarrod Bowen.

Bowen spoke to the media after the Leeds match. He said it was too soon to discuss transfers. “It is still very raw,” the forward explained. “Talking about futures is disrespectful to the club and the fans. This club deserves to be in the Premier League. Our aim now is to get this club back into the Premier League.”
