Norway’s coaching staff are furious with Scotland, but John McGinn is not worried. The Scotland camp cancelled a practice match between reserve players. Norway’s manager Stale Solbakken and team boss Brede Hangeland called the decision ’embarrassing’ and ‘weak’. However, McGinn says his team made the correct call.

Speaking at Scotland’s base in Charlotte, the midfielder remained calm. He told reporters that 75 percent of the squad had not even seen the Norwegian complaints. McGinn explained that Scotland recently lost Billy Gilmour to injury. They also had other players with fitness problems. He said protecting the team was the right thing to do.

‘If Norway lost Erling Haaland or Martin Odegaard before an important game, they would cancel too,’ McGinn stated. He added that every country must look after its own players first.

McGinn arrives at this tournament in excellent form. He recently won the Europa League with Aston Villa and helped them qualify for the Champions League. Fans in his hometown of Clydebank have painted a massive 25-foot mural of him on a house. The image makes him proud. He hopes it inspires local children to pursue football dreams.

The midfielder admits he made mistakes at previous tournaments. At the last Euros, he performed a traditional Bavarian dance while wearing a Tyrolean hat. Scotland played poorly afterwards. McGinn now regrets the distraction. He promises there will be no dancing before matches this time.

‘I did not play well in the last two major tournaments,’ he admitted. ‘Big players must deliver big moments. I will focus on the game, not the occasion.’

McGinn has scored 20 goals for Scotland. Only four players in history have scored more for the national team. He now sits just behind legends like Denis Law and Kenny Dalglish on the scoring charts.

The 29-year-old has also become a mentor for younger players. He advises teenagers like Tyler Fletcher, Findlay Curtis and Ben Gannon-Doak to seize their chances. He tells them to take shirts from senior players and make them their own. McGinn wants the new generation to know they are not just there to make up numbers.

With his mix of experience, humility and current form, McGinn represents Scotland’s best hope for success on the world stage.
